Book Boxes are my children’s absolute favorite gifts, and it’s easy to see why! The concept is simple yet magical: I choose a book I know they’ll love and pair it with a handful of themed gifts that bring the story to life. When they open their Book Box, they find a book alongside a collection of wrapped presents, each labeled with a page number. As they read, they get to open a surprise at just the right moment—guided by bookmarks placed throughout the book. The anticipation is thrilling, and I’ve never seen my kids read faster! They can’t wait to reach the next gift, making the experience both exciting and immersive.

The gifts can be as simple as small trinkets or as special as something they’ve been eagerly awaiting. No matter what, each present deepens their connection to the story, turning reading into an adventure.

Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis is one of the first young adult novels to earn our stamp of approval and recommendation. This book is best suited for readers ages 12 and up. It does include some action and violence—such as the use of guns, swords, and other weapons—and there are moments where characters are injured in physical combat. Villains are actively pursuing the main characters throughout the story, which adds to the intensity.

With all of that said, Raising Dragons is a thrilling and imaginative dragon adventure! The story carries clear Christian undertones, and the main characters are followers of God who turn to prayer during times of trouble. Because of its depth and excitement, this particular book box includes a few larger, more “wow-factor” items. I personally gave this as a special birthday gift, and it was a big hit.

Fun Gift Ideas for a Raising Dragons Book Box

  • Coffee Shop Gift Card
Page 7: “With his fingers wrapped around the warm mug, he waited, displaying a big smile and a ‘may I please have a sip?’ look.”
Why not take your book along to a local coffee shop for a special reading treat?

  • Airplane Launcher or Paper Airplane Kit
Page 114: “It’s a Cessna Caravan, not as agile as a dragon, but it’s a lot better equipped for what I have to do.”
The characters travel by plane to make a quick escape. Snap Circuits make a fun add-on here, but if you don’t have those, a paper airplane kit works just as well—we’ve had a lot of fun with this one!

  • Faith Journal
Page 171: “Please, God, keep me calm. Hide us in the palm of your hand.”
Quick, heartfelt prayers like this appear throughout the story. A faith journal for boys or girls is a meaningful and fitting addition.

  • Dragon Light
Page 285: “Clefspeare, now flapping his wings furiously to hover in place, spotted the weak one and torched the tree…”
A color-changing dragon light is a fun way to bring the story’s magic into real life.

  • LEGO Dragon
Page 334: For a LEGO-loving kiddo, this makes a perfect grand finale to celebrate finishing the book.

Book boxes make reading a truly interactive experience, turning every page into an adventure. If you’re looking for a fun and memorable way to inspire a love of books, this is a wonderful idea to try—you just might spark a lifelong reader.
