Bear and Bird are the sweetest of friends—kind, brave, gentle, and full of joy. Together they set off on adventures (and the occasional misadventure!) that are an absolute delight to read.
I truly love this series. It’s a wonderful beginner reader collection that bridges the gap between picture books and early chapter books. Each book is divided into four short chapters, making it easy to pause and pick back up whenever your reader is ready. The chapters stand alone as satisfying mini-stories, while also gently building the ongoing story of Bear and Bird’s friendship.
Jarvis is such a clever storyteller, and the illustrations are bright, expressive, and full of charm. I especially love the little “easter egg” references to past adventures tucked throughout the pages—it’s so fun to spot them together!
It’s rare to find an early reader series that truly pulls you through to the very end, but this one does just that. Jarvis has done a brilliant job. My daughter and I both adore these books, and I’m so excited that they’ll be included in the Safe Books for Kids catalog this spring. I wholeheartedly recommend every available title in this series!
