Setting reading goals for the new year is a popular resolution—and it might be something your child is excited to try too! Visual trackers can bring fresh energy to goal-setting by making progress easy to see and celebrate.

I created a January Reading Tracker just for kids! For younger children who are being read to or reading picture books independently, finishing 25 books in one month is a fantastic goal. My son, who’s reading chapter books, set a goal to read 25 books by the end of the school year!

Visual trackers can also be helpful reminders for parents and provide kids with instant satisfaction as they color in a shape each time they finish a book. That little sense of accomplishment can be all the motivation they need to keep going!

I’ve found that kids don’t always need a big prize at the end of their goal—sometimes, the pride of finishing is reward enough. But if you’d like to add a special treat, go for it! Something simple, like a fun trip to the park, can make reaching the goal even sweeter.
