The Gift of the Christmas Cookie: Sharing the True Meaning of Jesus’ Birth by Dandi Daley Mackall and Deborah Chabrian for Zonderkidz books.

This beautiful watercolor-illustrated children’s Christmas book shares where the tradition of giving Christmas cookies came from. The cookies were given to people who didn’t have much on Christmas and were used to tell the story of Jesus’ birth in the Schwabian region of Europe. Sugar cookies that came in the shapes of an angel, star, shepherd, wise men, Mary, and Jesus were given out along with the good news.

In this story, the little boy, Jack, is experiencing his own hardship. His dad had to leave home to look for work in a different town and is not present in the book. Though he misses his dad on Christmas, the joy of sharing the gospel and a Christmas cookie shines through.
