Ruthie loves tiny things so when she finds a teeny tiny camera during recess she starts to play with it. When a classmate claims that the camera is his, Ruthie has a dilemma. Should she give it back to her classmate or should she say it was hers so she can keep it and add it to her collection of teeny tiny things? In the moment Ruthie decided a teeny tiny lie wouldn’t hurt anyone and she would get to keep the cute new camera she found!
How do you think that will work out for her?
Things I really liked about this book are the strong family presence and support Ruthie has in the book, and the personal journey Ruthie took. She was torn up inside after telling that lie! When she told the truth to her teacher and her friend they weren’t too upset with her. When we are trying to teach honesty as a virtue to our children isn’t that what we always say? “You won’t get in trouble if you just tell me the truth.” The consequence in this story is a natural one, Ruthie feels terrible and wants to make it right.
