Ash Wednesday is March 5th, which starts Lent. Whether you traditionally observe Lent or not, I have a fun idea for preparing your heart for Easter, read The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones and Jago for Zonderkidz books. If you read one story or chapter per day for 40 days, the book will take you from creation to resurrection.

What I love most about this book is that every chapter points to the need for a Savior. That Savior is Jesus. “Every story whispers his name,” just as the subtitle of this book suggests. Reading stories based on scripture and finding the Christ connection on every page is such a gift.

“At the center of the Story, there is a baby. Every Story in the Bible whispers his name. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle – the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together, and suddenly you can see a beautiful picture.”

When the book tells of the story of the fall of Adam and Eve, the story ends with the promise.

“I will come to rescue you! And when I do, I’m going to do battle against the snake. I’ll get rid of the sin and the dark and the sadness you let in here. I’m coming back for you! And he would. One day, God himself would come.”

There are many resources you can use along with this book to help your child understand the message. We also have The Jesus Storybook Coloring Book. Having your child color the coordinating page while you read or later that day might help your child connect to the story in a new way.

I found a free resource online to help you keep track of your reading in a tangible way. You can make a paper chain countdown. The free printable is here.
