We have been enjoying the Hector Fox stories in our home. We recently read three books from the Hector Fox series by Astrid Sheckels, published by Islandport Press, and found them delightful.

This series has a timeless charm, with classic illustrations and enduring stories that are sure to stand the test of time. Each book takes readers on an adventure with Hector Fox and his forest friends as they solve mysteries, tackle challenges, and work together with courage and creativity. Their camaraderie and teamwork shine through, making these stories both engaging and heartwarming.

One of our favorites is Hector Fox and the Raven’s Revenge. In this story, the group of animal friends sets out to help the mice of Stone Tower protect their home from the ravens. Is revenge really what the ravens are after? Not at all—they’re planning a surprise birthday party! The story concludes with a whimsical and joyful party scene that relieved us all.

Another standout is Hector Fox and the Map of Mystery, which follows a thrilling treasure hunt. Along the way, Hector and his friends encounter a mischievous gang of coyotes who try to trap them—but rest assured, no one is harmed. (I like to mention this for families with children who may be sensitive to stories involving “bad guys.”)

Finally, Hector Fox and the Daring Flight is a harrowing yet inspiring tale about building a flying machine! The friends must work together, face their fears, and stay determined. Will they succeed and take to the skies? You’ll have to read it to find out! This series is a wonderful blend of adventure and timeless lessons about friendship and bravery. If you’re looking for stories the whole family can enjoy, the Hector Fox books are a great choice!
