This book was written by a St. Louis kindergarten teacher, illustrated by a St. Louisian, and published here in STL too! Wahoo! I happen to personally know what a fantastic kindergarten teacher Jessica Schneider is!

You can tell this was written by a teacher because the kid in it, Lou, is excited to be finally going to school! The book emphasizes the importance of being prepared before you start! It’s not what you think, you don’t need to have your alphabet and numbers perfectly. What’s more important is that you can open your lunch by yourself, tie your shoes, and go to the bathroom all by yourself. That’s what it takes to be ready for kindergarten!

It’s an important message for those starting school in the next few weeks! You know I love a book that has a child with a positive attitude toward school and friends! I highly recommend it!

We have this fun shoe-tying toy to help kids learn how to tie their shoes. I’m sure you’re thinking wait a minute, don’t kids have their actual shoes to practice tying on? Well yes, that is true. But if you were like me your kid didn’t want to practice, and having a “toy” to practice on seemed much more exciting!
